I am amazed at how often we settle for so much less than God intends for us and yet at the same time realize that God’s call to greatness and our understanding of “greatness” can be worlds apart. Man views greatness in terms of obtaining/receiving but God views greatness in terms of giving/releasing. The sad reality is that many have become so driven by success and the desire to be great, they no longer can feel the heartbeat of God. While we proclaim “its not about you” we have made it “all about me”. It has become about the recognition of “my” name, receiving of “my” rights, obtaining of “my” wants, and the realization of “my” dreams. It has become so much about us that we have “hid Jesus”. The world cannot see Him because He has been covered by “our” sermons, “our” songs, “our” gifts, “our” lights, “our” performances. We will never realize the greatness He has called us to until we clear the stage! The call to greatness remains a call to humility and a call to serve (Matthew 23:11-12). Jesus is still looking for those who will deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him! The greatest man/woman alive is the man/ woman who can be found with a towel and bowl “washing the feet” of someone who can do absolutely nothing for them. Our call to greatness is a call to surrender and a call to place ourselves “empty” in the Hands of God!
